Erect herb is 30 -50 cm high, lower leaves stalked, 2.5 -25 cm long, 0.8 - 4 cm wide, lanceolate, long-pointed, entire, upper leaves sessile. Flower is cream color.

Flowers and fruits will be matured June to August, herb  distributed in western and central Nepal from 2,500 to 3,600 m, also grown in northern India and Bhuta in open, dried places.

Gentiana (G. lutea and G. robust) is a perennial herb originating in India and local markets.

This species have different names in Nepal which have Lo name of “Kho rog sngo” in upper Mustang, vernacular name (local) of bhutkesh as Nepali, and tanita as Gurung. It have also other Tibetan names of Kiche karpo, kbije in Tibet.

Its roots and leaves are dried, burned, and the fumes inhaled to treat colds. These are used for fever by their infusion in Himalaya. Gentiana Plant is an economically viable and globally marketable plant. Other Gentiana species are expected to have similar efficacy.

It is used worldwide as a bitter stomachic for treatment of chronic gastritis, and gout. Its constituent rhizomes and roots include gentiopicrin, a bitter glycoside.
